I can’t find it on the WhatsApp group, please send it to me!

Over and over, you must have heard these words — if you are a student within the Nigerian educational system. Overtime, Nigerian students have found a way to transform social platforms primarily made for chat interactions to a system of communicating with each other and sharing important class or school information.

While this is anything but effective, it is much preferable to the other option which is a non-option. There is no alternative, asides the ol’ conventional method of physical meet ups, largely impossible considering the largely virtual world that we live in today.

When we say that this system is anything but effective, we’re not just saying it. A survey involving a number of class reps from the University of Lagos, Nigeria proved this. Amongst other complaints, these class reps found it hard to carry out their tasks because of how ineffective these social platforms are for school-related communication. The complaints included, but were not restricted to:

  1. Lack of storage space for document or large files
  2. A lack of filter between important and unimportant messages
  3. Lack of organization; of files for different courses
  4. Lost messages or inability to find important information

This problem affects not just the class reps but the students themselves who have to ‘manage’ this problem until they get out of school. If communication is indeed life, then you can tell that such ‘management’ often spells serious consequences for these students; from not getting important information at the right time to having these issues affects their grades.

Enough of the problem, what is THE solution?

Stranerd classes: The way these work is to solve every problem mentioned above and more. Files are compressed to save space and each can be organized according to the course which it concerns — making each student have access to the general class library. Simply beyond cool! Furthermore, having classes within a study environment like Stranerd unconsciously imbibes the culture of a study-centric interaction which automatically filters unimportant interactions. Admins have more control as well, and can control the interactions between students.

Currently, we have over 12 classes on Stranerd and counting since we introduced the feature recently. The onboarding process has been very revealing and we’re taking into consideration all that each user points out in order to make the platform better!

You can create a class to study with your own friends too! Check it out here.

The app is always better, download it from Play Store here.

Until next time ✌
